Frankly Speaking About Cancer

Upcoming Program

Cancer Treatment in the 21st Century: Comprehensive Patient-Centered Care
Thursday, May 27, 7 - 9 pm – Cancer Support Community Greater Miami
Speaker: Leonard A. Kalman, M.D.
Deputy Medical Director, Miami Cancer Institute
Baptist Health South Florida

Join us as we welcome Dr. Kalman for an early look at Miami Cancer Institute, Baptist Health's ambitious project to transform cancer care in South Florida. Dr. Kalman will discuss personnel, programs, and technologies planned for the Institute. Centered on ten "pillars" of cancer care, he will discuss each in the context of what it means to cancer patients and their friends and family, with a special focus on navigation, "patient centeredness", and shared decision-making. Attendees will also get a "virtual tour" of the spectacular new building planned for opening in late 2016. Patients/Survivors and loved ones are welcome!

Kids and Teens Programs

Carnival Foundation

Cancer Support Community Greater Miami (CSCGM) is proud to introduce our new Pediatric Oncology Pilot Program, presented by Carnival Foundation. Please follow the CHILDREN & TEENS PROGRAMS link on this page for the latest information on our new and exciting programs beginning with our currently established monthly Family Networking Group, taking place on the third Saturday of every month.

1. Help children with cancer process feelings, adapt to stress of their illness, skill build and learn through age-appropriate interventions including therapeutic play.

2. Give well siblings an opportunity for safe expression regarding how cancer has affected them by providing developmentally appropriate support for their needs.

3. Help parents address their own emotional needs so they can better manage the tasks of parenting a child with cancer.

4. Provide schools with information and resources for responding to the needs of children and their families living with cancer.
