WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
by Frances Robinson
What happens to those kindred souls
Whose footprints overlap the footsteps of every wandering survivor
Who walked through the doors of CSC?
What happens to the vibrant voices
Once silenced in uncertainty
Empowered now with information
Will they find their voice again?
What will happen to the souls departed
Whose only chance to live again
Comes when they appear inside the room
In the hearts of their friends?
What happens to the joy -the hope
Placed Inside so many hearts
When they come to realize
That they have lost their sanctuary?
What happens to all those Conversations
Collective voices of courageous souls
Will the walls bear witness to their pain once everyone is gone?
What happens to the unknown survivor
Longing to find a safe and caring place
Where they can share their testimony and cast their name into the fight?
The door will shut but it will never close
On lasting memories
It cannot rub out the knowledge gained
It cannot erase the progress made
Perhaps like cancer those kindred souls
Will span out into the city
And inject themselves like a chemo infusion
With power and aggression
They will survive -that's what they do
Move on with life is how they'll go
But they will never forget the place (CSC)
That gave them such a defining voice
